BusLane

BusLane Support

BusLane monitors your USB devices and alerts you when high-speed gear like cameras or drives is running slower than expected. If something isn’t behaving, start here.

Need a human? Email [email protected] with your macOS version, the BusLane version from About…, and what you were doing at the time. Bug reports and feature requests are both welcome.

Troubleshooting a slow tether

If BusLane is reporting a device below its rated speed, work through the chain in this order — it resolves the overwhelming majority of cases:

Frequently asked questions

Why is my camera showing as connected at USB 2.0 speed?

This usually indicates a faulty or inadequate cable, a USB hub with slow ports, or a camera port issue. Try connecting directly to the Mac with a high-quality USB-C cable rated for the speed you expect.

How do I ignore a device?

Open the BusLane settings from the menu bar icon and add the devices you want to skip to the Ignored Devices list. This is the right place for hubs, keyboards, dongles and other low-speed peripherals you’ll never need an alert about.

Can I disable notifications for certain devices?

Yes — the same Ignored Devices list in settings suppresses alerts for anything you add to it.

Can I rename a device?

Yes. Any device can be given a custom name, which is useful for multi-camera rigs or shared setups where the manufacturer’s name isn’t descriptive enough.

Does BusLane work with Thunderbolt devices?

BusLane is designed to monitor USB devices. Some Thunderbolt devices may appear, but the app focuses on USB connection speeds and may not report Thunderbolt-specific details.

Does it work alongside Capture One and Lightroom?

Yes. BusLane doesn’t integrate with tethering software — it monitors macOS USB connections directly, so it runs happily alongside Capture One, Lightroom Classic, EOS Utility, NX Tether, Imaging Edge or anything else.

Is any personal or identifying information sent in reports?

No personal files or user content are ever collected. Diagnostic reports are anonymised and may include device type, but never personal data. The privacy policy has the full detail.

How do I update BusLane?

Updates are delivered through the Mac App Store.
